Do you feel like having an ugly cry?

cryingAre you stressed?

At who?

At what?

When?

And how long does it last?

Ask yourself these questions. This is something I ask my patients in practice all the time because our health goals are drastically affected based on the level of our stress hormones. Our stress hormones, cortisol increases and the following symptoms occur:

Expanding waistline, inability to think clearly, twitchy eyelids, waking up between 2-4am, not waking up feeling rested, wanting to kill your partner, children, boss and reaching out for a muffin because damn it you NEED it, having road rage as you drown yourself in coffee, twinge at the sound of yet another email coming through your Smartphone (SHUT UP!), kicking yourself in the ass because, your pants are feeling tighter and you think, you really shouldn’t have had that muffin, still sleepy…another coffee maybe? Bloated and wishing you could just have a good bowel movement rather than the pencil poop. Still hungry…cookie maybe? No you can’t, you’re fat remember? Wanting to scream, but you hold it in until one day you end up melting down and having yourself…

…an ugly cry.

Trust me when I say, I’ve been there holding my tears, feeling my eyes well up just to quickly scoot to the bathroom and break down.

Don’t let them see you cry. Don’t let them see you cry.

Then it leads to a vicious cycle of emotional eating and weight aside, our digestive system goes to shit (in more ways than one). Our pipes are also known as our second brain.  I’ve seen this time and time again in practice.

Patient reveals she was raped. Finally has a bowel movement after not having one for almost two weeks.

Patient describes her deep-rooted internal anger (depression), we reverse the thought pattern and her loose bowel movements cease.

So what can be done?

Here’s where it gets real juicy.
