Lost in love and…a poor diet?

Aug

As butterflies did back flips in the past, they’ve now officially done a triple back flip summersault into a huge pool of bliss. Swimming and leaving sparkles in their trails, something finally felt complete. I’ve waited years for this, in fact, I’ve waited my entire life and now it was finally here. Past love paled in comparison and now I see myself jumping in with both feet.  However in the past, when I’ve jumped in, I became lost in all the excitement and my diet fell by the wayside. Which begs the question, how do you prevent losing yourself when you’re in love?

I know what you’re thinking: this seems quick Melissa. And you know what? You’re right. However the heart has no concept of time and in this case it was instant from the first meeting.

[Queue butterflies getting drunk]

Everything else faded and somehow I realized how much I had put up with before and what I did and didn’t deserve. There would be no more settling, no more making excuses for why I’d stay in relationships that made me miserable. And while I didn’t plan for this to happen the way or when it did – the heart has no concept of time.

The Carpenter and I found ourselves spontaneously going up north for a weekend away and there on a beach, we curled up next to each other on the sand under the hot sun. Driving back we screeched Jane Honda to a halt on a backcountry road to play Marco Polo in a cornfield to finally find one another. We were kids and we were madly in love.

Now in the past, I’ve lost my diet through love: burgers, fries and us much takeout as we could afford. After all, what was the point in taking time to make food when we could just order in?

Nah ah my little sexy friend…

While I’ve certainly indulged lately more than usual, I’ve learned from the past to not completely lose myself – after all, that’s what he fell in love with to begin with – me. So instead, I’ve brought him into my sexy little world. Suddenly he has more energy with a green smoothie in the morning and has gladly taken me up on my professional supplement recommendations. He’s excited and pumped and wants to share this journey with me.

So with that said, because I’m not a morning person and I like quick and easy recipes – here is one that I’ve easily whipped up for him and I when he’s stayed over. It’s alkaline, it’s sweet, creamy and green – oh ya baby.

Green Monster Spread

¼ cup tahini paste

1-2 tbsp maple syrup (depending on your taste)

½ tsp greens powder (I love Vitamineral Greens)

½ tsp vanilla rice protein powder

Water as needed

Combine all ingredients together and slowly add water by tablespoon until you get the thick spreadable consistency needed.

I’m always trying to find a way to add in my greens – especially in the morning when our bodies are so acidic. And while I’m a big smoothie and juice preacher man…er…woman, I sometimes want a little bread in the morning…**GASP**

[Queue horror music]

Hold on now…this ain’t no regular bread my friends, these are Ezekiel English muffins which means they’re all sprouted grain. With a higher nutrient profile than regular bread, I don’t feel so bad eating this as a treat every now and then.

As for love…

We encourage, motivate and inspire one another with dreams and play that fuel our butterfly wings. And while we fell fast and hard, let me remind you once again…the heart has no concept of time. There would be no losing of self in this situation – because together we’re finding one another like never before.

  1. I love this! So happy for you :)

I agree: it’s so important to hang onto who you are in a relationship. I’m lucky: my man has quickly caught onto the same food habits, even taking the initiative to make us both smoothies in the morning, complete with almond mylk & spinach! I don’t feel lost because he also enjoys being part of my word :)

    Happy Thursday, pretty lady! <3
